North West Junior Round Up 28/04/12
It’s the business end of the season and the busiest time with games coming thick and fast. Tuesday night saw Lincoln Courts edge towards the title with a 2-0 win over Dungiven thanks to Gary Nutt and Craig Simpson goals. Drummond held Challengers Maghera to a 3-3 draw with Chris McClean, Clint McClean and Mark Averill getting the goals. Gazza O’Doherty grabbed two and Mark O’Donnell the other to keep Maghera in the race. City Colts are finishing the season strong and defeated BBOB 5-1 with Daragh Duffy and Eoighan Moore both grabbing a couple and Micky McDaid the other. BBOB got a consolation own goal. Roe Rovers threw away a 2-0 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining as they drew 2-2 with Greysteel. Timmy Douglas grabbed both Rovers goals. McGuinness and O’Connor for Greysteel. One game outside the top Division saw new crowned Division One Champions Ardmore defeat Tullyally 5-2 thanks to Barry Gormley, Steven Melly, mark Mclaughlin, Gareth Brown and own goal doing the damage.
On Wednesday Ballykelly’s promotion hopes took a blow when they lost 2-1 to Burnfoot. Gary Brady’s goal wasn’t enough as Burnfoot took all the points with Ross Elder and Willie McClenaghan on target for Wilson Tosh’s side. Greysteel Reserves defeated Lincoln Reserves 3-2. Greysteel had quite a week with their two teams having five games and remaining undefeated all week. Steven McGuinness grabbed two and Shan O’Doherty the other as they came from two down to win.
Thursday Night saw Greysteel win 2-0 at home to BBOB with Doherty and O’Connor on target. City Colts defeated Drummond 2-1 with John McConnell and Darren Walker settling this tight game. Maghera defeated Newbuildings 3-2 to remain in tack with leaders Lincoln. Mark Olphert and Lewis Keys for Newbuildings and
Friday Night saw a Cup upset as Eglinton defeated Roe Rovers in the semi final of the City Cup 3-0 at Wilton Park and they now face Ardmore this Friday in the Final.
Saturday saw the premier title take another twist. Lincoln held 3-3 by Drummond due to Sean Boyd’s double and Mitchell Tommons goal. Lincoln had Gary Nutt grabbing two and Mark Hamilton for what could be a vital point. Maghera defeated Sion 5-1 with Mark O’Donnell and Stephen Merron both hitting the net twice and Jerome McKenna also scoring. Conor Carlin replied for Sion. City Colts defeated BBOB 3-0 with Liam Langan, Eoghan Moore and Daragh Duffy the scorers. Dungiven won 4-2 at home to Newbuildings with Barry Craig getting a brace. Anthony Cassidy and Conor O’Kane with the others. Craig Culbert and McCausland for NB. Ballykelly renewed promotion hopes with a 4-0 win over Tullyally with Paddy Logue, Johnny Duddy, Breffni King and an OG. Gresyteel reserves completed a tiring week for their club with a 1-0 win over Dungiven Thirds, Decky Doherty the scorer.
