First did just enough to win in the end against a strong and determined Braniel side. It looked like First might cruise to victory when they went 2 - 0 up after five minutes. Their first came after only 15 seconds when Campbell won the ball on the by-line fed the ball inside and then Luke Eastwood finished into the bottom corner. Their second came as a result of another defensive lapse, when Simpson's good work forced the goalkeeper to miskick. The ball went straight to Eastwood who finished well from just outside the box.

The two goals might have killed the game off but Braniel started to get a foothold in the game. They forced a few half chances with First happy to sit back and hit Braniel on the counter attack. However, the scored remained 2 - 0 at half time.

Braniel started the second half brightly and got the goal their endeavour deserved, when a superb cross from the left was turned in at the back post. Braniel applied more pressure and might have equalised, however First extended their lead when some good work from Dez Eastwood and Campbell allowed Simpson to finish from close range to make it 3 - 1. Braniel to their credit continued to press and got back in the game when a defensive lapse allowed their striker to finish cooly over Croft. Braniel pushed hard for the equaliser but a combination of good goalkeeping and last ditch defending kept First in the lead. On another day, Braniel might have won the game, but a good battling performance from First helped them grind out the win.
