    Default Colin Valley u18's

    2010-2011 - south Belfast u17 league

this team was brought together by myself in the summer of 2010 with players from all over west belfast. not only did they not even know each other but a lot of them didnt even know that the club had exsisted.

We decided to enter them into the south belfast league in the under 17 section were we finished mid-table in the first division. A very respectful position i thought as per above this was there first season together.

Yeah keeper kicked the ball straight to him - fair doo's he was well outside the box (more towards the half way line) and hit one right over the keeper's head, very big team they have but not the quickest team in the world.

never know maybe we will meet in the cup again

    Game 19 Carryduff 2 v Colin Valley 3

We travelled up to Loughmoss for this match on Sat morning for a 9:30 KO. I have set our lads a target of winning the last 5 games we had in this league (something that I think is really achievable) this was the first of those 5 games and they done themselves proud with a strong performance with only 10 men for almost all of the match. The lads didn’t start well, with a few changes in the starting 11 – Missing C. ORawe and C. Ferguson meant that we had to reshuffle players around who found it pretty difficult in the 1st 10-15 mins of the game but they did put in a performance in the 2nd half which was really good. In the first 5 mins Carryduff had a corner and one of their big centre halves had won the header that seemed to be going into the right hand corner of the net then out of no-where our left back (lee McCann) dove and cleared the ball of the line with his hand – a save def to be proud of but the fact he was an outfield player gave Carryduff a penalty and got himself a straight red card lol. Luckily for us the Carryduff player missed and the game stayed at 0-0. It was carryduff that took advantage first with another corner that their striker met and put the ball past our keeper. We started arguing with each other and found it difficult to get the ball on the deck and play any football. We did show signs of it but didn’t bother the keeper until around 20 mins into the game with our first attack on goal. Adam Jones rounded the keeper and slotted home with his 12th of the season. It was game on but Carryduff still found it fairly easy to pass their way through our midfield and it worked for them again when they went 2-1 up and to be honest looked liked they could of scored more only for Manuel Wilson putting in another Man of the Match performance in Centre Back. Half time came and my message to them was simply to play as a team and put in a real shift as it is going to be hard with 10 men and the result will come our way if they played together as a team. For the first 10 mins of the 2nd half this is what they did and carryduff couldn’t handle it, they didn’t even get a touch of the ball and we attacked their defence with counter attacking at its finest. We scored with about 15 mins into the 2nd half with a cracking corner fired in from Fra Harbo and Gary Lennon who was just back from injury met with a fine header to make the game 2-2. Carryduff did play their part in the 2nd half and our Keeper Sean McIlhatton made some fine saves to keep them at bay. With the game at 2-2 both teams where going for the winner and it was the valley bhoys that got the winner with sub Ryan Loughran being at the right place and the right time with the ball coming to him after the keeper made a save only for it to fall right to Ryan’s feet for an easy tap in. Game was almost over and the 3 points where in the bag. Great team performance in the 2nd half which I am really proud of for the lads as they started very nervously. Next game is v Aquinas at Cheeryvale.

Game 20 v Aquinas and Game 21 v St Marys Postponed due to a both team wanted to call games off.

Very little football played recently but with q/f match v Creagh Wanderers on Sat 03rd March we have recently played one of our senior teams and put in a really good preformance. Not going to mention to score but lets just say the u18's didnt let themselves down which is really good for the club and the future when these lads are ready to step into senior football.

Waiting on Fixtures coming out for Q/F - has to be a neutral plitch with linesmen including ref so should be a real good game and one the boys are looking forward to.

    Q/F Result
    Creagh Wanderers 2 v Colin Valley 3

Good result for the lads on sat. They played very well and played some really good football opening up creagh many a time - the main concern from the match is that the game wasnt put to bed in the first half which sort of let creagh back into the game a little.

We were 2-0 up in the first half with goals from Adam Jones and Ryan Park and looked very comfortable. But as stated by not finishing our chances it let Ceagh back into the game. They were awarded a very soft penalty in last few mins of half which they converted to make it 2-1. It seemed to lift the creagh team but we were a little bit too strong for them and it showed when we scored our 3rd (Ryan Park again) to bring back the 2 goal advantage. We spent most of the half in the creagh half as we had the wind advantage 2nd half and it seemed to be chance after chance but we could finish our dinner in the 2nd half and it almost came back to hunt us. Creagh pushed forward with one of there very few chances and hit a shot that was going wide but our keeper seemed to save the shot and let it fall under his feet for their striker to collect it and fire into an empty net - 3-2 but not much time left for either team to score anymore goals.

S/F game is v Bloomfield on 17th March (St Paddy's day) and after our recent result v bloomfield the lads are feeling confident of reaching our first final in this league.

The other semi final is Ballycastle (who had the shock result of the round by beating favourites Shankill FC by penalties) v Comber Rec (who got past Aquinas in the other Q/F game).

Nxt league game v Aquinas on 10/03/12 so hopefully a nice warm up match before the big S/F game v bloomfield the week after

    GAME 20

    Aquinas 2 v Colin Valley 1

Unfortunately things didnt go our way on sat with an aquinas team that just seemed to want the game more. We started the game of very well and played most of the football during this game but the problem was that we just couldnt score after a bucket loads of chances, just couldnt find the final ball or find the net with the shots we had.

It was c.valley who scored first with a goal from PJ Meenan (his 4th of the season) after great work down the line from Fra harbinson to cross and the ball seemed to bounce of PJ into the net, 1-0 and to be honest aquinas never looked like in anyway dangerous of getting the equalizer in the first half. We had chances to double the lead but with their keeper playing well and us not being as leathel as usual the half finished 1-0.

The 2nd half Aquinas came into the game more and more and with us not able to add anymore goals we became frustrated with ourselves. This paved the way for aquainas to make their comeback and the equalizer came from one of their very few chances going down the right hand side and finding 1 one 1 with our keeper who wasnt given a chance with a great finish to make the game 1-1.

It was still anyones game and we had the chances to take the lead with a 30 free kick from fra harbinson rattling the crossbar but it wasnt to be and after a stupid free kick at the half way line given away aquinas scored the winner. The ball was floated into the box (from the half way line) but managed to find its way right into the net after our keeper made a blunder and the ball nestled into the net - 2-1 to aquinas and only about 5 mins to go - we pushed again for the equilizer but could find the net with shots from ryan loughran and padriag mckissock either being saved or going wide.

Wasnt to be our game this one and fair play to aquinas as they stuck to their guns and played right to the end. Wake up call i think my lads needed.

Next game is S/F game v bloomfield on 24th March so plenty of preperation for this game ahead of us.

    SBYL U18 Cup Semi Final

    Bloomfield v Colin Valley – 0-1

Congratulations to my u18 team that weekend for making it to the final of the south Belfast u18 cup. The semi final was played at Cherryvale and tbh both teams went for it from the first whistle. As you expect from teenagers they where both fired up and it told as it was end to end for the first 20 mins but no team could find the net.

The deciding part of the game was around 30 mins into the game when we broke forward with Adam Jones heading towards the box with only one Bloomfield defender with him, he seemed to edge him out of the way right outside the box and both lines man and ref had stopped the game, after speaking to each other the decision was that the defender was last man and he was then sent off and we were awarded a free kick outside the box. Nothing came of the free kick but it meant Bloomfield where now down to 10 men with a lot of the game still left. Half time came with both teams going in with the game still 0-0

We knew had to keep the pressure on this big Bloomfield side as every throw in they had it was like a corner so it was a good defensive display from the lads as they cleared everything that came at them. With our attacking play putting Bloomfield under a lot of pressure every time we went forward it finally paid off with a free kick fired in by Fra Harbo from the left hand side for Captain Manuel Wilson to stick his foot to it to make the game 0-1 to valley. It seemed to knock the wind out this Bloomfield side but they still tried to push forward and get the equaliser. This meant we could always catch them on the break and it happened a few times but we couldn’t find the killer shot or pass to end the game.

Game ended 0-1 to valley and a place in a final for the first time in this league in our 2nd season as a team (its also the 2nd final this season we have got into with us also getting to a summer tournament v Clintonville in August). Lots of positives to take from this game and a few things we can work on for the final v Comber Rec (Dates and Venues TBC).

Last and final league game this season is also against Comber Rec (im sure well be sick of each other over next few weeks lol) Only this time its at Valley Park which should be a completely different game from when we played them at Comber last year.

Thks to Bloomfield for a cracking game on Sat and all the best to them for the rest of their league games
