Spotlight: Immaculata FC II

Champions elect Immaculata FC II take the Amateur league by storm after their long awaited entry into the NAFL.

Our first season in the NAFL and what a great outcome to the hard work that has been going on at the club both on and of the field of play, with a little bit of apprehension we entered the unknown and our aim was to get a foothold in this division.

At the start of the year we had no Idea that at the end of it we would be champions of 3F.The attitude of the players has been fantastic throughout the club with good numbers attending traing and some very skill-full young lads joining the club, the future looks bright. We have had our highs and lows this year but mostly highs and long may it continue.

On saturday the 14th Feb we scored what was our 100th goal in the league a great achievement for the young lads in the 2nds and with the side scoring from all the pitch I can see us scoring a lot more before the final game.

I would like to say that the biggest contingent of our division have wished us well throughout the season and have been very sporting and hospitable in deed. This year some players have shown themselves to be outstanding players the like of John Boyce who has scored 31 goals from midfield more than some strikers could manage, our forwards like Dee McCann, Marty Heron who took the league by storm at the start of the season, the young lads in Billy McGovern, Neal sloan and Jude Winchester who have played for both 1st and 2nds this year and who have not looked out of place for their age.

With the league won the boys can now concentrate on the Templeton Cup and what a feat that would be to do the double in the first year but we have no expectations of this as we just are delighted to be Champions. We now move up a division and fully expect it to be a lot harder next season as teams will set their stalls out against us but we will hopefully have as good a season next year as we did this.

Spotlight: Newington YC website

02. March 2009

This weeks featured website is on Newington YC, the latest club moving onto the web with their own website.

First thing that hits you about the site is the pictures, these are a good thing to have on a sites home page, having some pictures for colour is plus as to much text and users will move on quickly.  They could have picked some better photos though, not to sure whether the gaffer will be happy with his version of the moon walk.  The home page also includes latest updates on the previous weekends matches and the next fixtures.

One point regarding the homepage is the club crest and name in the header, this should be bigger and maybe placed on a lighter background to emphasize what the site is about. Although having the photos breaks up the home page they take the focus from the users first viewing and the site name should be the first thing that catches your attention.

A simple navigation menu the left which uses a standard football menu list, Squad, fixtures, tables links. On each of these pages again photos have been included, with a current squad picture.  Addition links regarding Newingtons youth setup,  club history and trophy cabinet, and they have also included their constitution.

“Soap Says!” interview with the gaffer, takes you through the goings on in the Managers eyes from the weekends shenanigans.

One thing that may let down the newingtonfc website will be the content of CC’s corner.  Going by his avatars on the forum and the amount of **** he talks this will be an interesting one for the future.

And finally the usual football website guestbook, will it be yet another flash in the pan, on most websites never a good idea as people always seems to abuse this section with unwanted comments.

Quote from Guestbook:

The maestro

“Well done to everyone involved in the setting up of this fantastic site, and for given me a platform to air my greatly appreciated opinions and views. I would firstly like to congratulate my disabled friend Bucko aka Morgy, on his fantastic performance in training on Thursday night. The way he left the veteran Sean Burns for dead, not once but TWICE within a minute, was nothing short of majestic. Also his strength and determination in holding of a very aggressive Tag’s, whilst playing a spectacular 15 yard pass back to the feet of his keeper, shows he’s well on the way to making his return to action. Well done Michael “

“I would also like to congratulate soap on a rope with a big massive head and an attitude problem, on the completion of his Level 1 coaching award. Well done coach”

P.S. I’m available for selection xx

All on all the website is a very decent start and I am sure once it gets going will be another good addition for local football on the web.
